Ibex

an Ibex grazing near the road- and within 50m of the town.... this was unusual to see it so close to a town. There was a second one feeding on almond leaves- it was standing on its hindlegs to reach the branches... I couldn't get a clear shot unfortunately.

Ibex Mine

The Ibex Mine is in the center of Interstate 40. See the full-size version to read the place names. I don't know how many times I've driven Interstate 40 between Barstow and Needles, California, in my lifetime. According to this map, which is part of the MapSource software for my GPS, the Ibex Mine is in the center of Interstate 40. I've checked this out on other maps and sure enough, there it is. I'm going to have to make a trip out there sometime and look for the mine. The GPS coordinates are: N 34° 52' 07.1" W 114° 50' 03.0" 1,982 feet (604 meters) I think this stretch of Interstate 40 is also U.S. Route 66. And for my fellow travelers . . . During my search for information on the Ibex Mine (I haven't found very much yet) I ran across this web site that might make interesting reading: www.interstate-guide.com/. Their "mission is to catalog every Interstate highway within the Eisenhower Interstate System." I haven't had time to read it yet, so I can just let you know it's there. I can't say whether it's any good or not. ibex-mine_001a1_800x600

a bit thanks to Mario the busdriver. He stopped there to show them to us. He also waited long enough, so that everybody could take a photo of them ;-) Sadly there is a litte bit of reflection from the bus window. best view large en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibex

these crags are visible from the Mont Caro road- and a good eye can spot the Ibex.... we watched the Ibex, and discovered more later.

Ibex

Our guide was a book by Kev Reynolds, and he wrote that in the area between Cabane Mont Fort and Col Termin there was a good chance of seeing ibex. And sure enough, we came across a pack of them. In total, there was about a dozen animals.

Since month I am looking for ibex. They are hard to find. Last Sunday, when I was walking very early in the morning in the Hohe Tauern National Park, I met a group of ibex. - But I had the wrong camera and the wrong lense with me. No tele-lense, only a super-wide-lense. - A superb lense, but the wrong for ibex. Nevertheless I want to show the photo because I like it from the composition. Comments of all sorts are - as always - highly appreciated! OK, this won't make it into the final selection of "Wildlife Photo of the Year". But for a snapshot from my kitchen window, it's not too bad... It's a group of about 15 animals.
